Travel agency lead generation: where good enquiries come from
Most travel agencies get their best leads from repeat customers, referrals, Instagram, Google and WhatsApp click-to-chat ads. But more leads only help if you handle them well. Agencies lose many enquiries after they arrive, through slow replies, late quotes and no follow-up. Fix that first, then spend on getting more.
1. Repeat customers
Your cheapest leads are people who have already travelled with you. Message past travellers who agreed to hear from you a few weeks before the holidays they usually travel in, with one trip idea that suits them. A family that went to Bali in December is a good bet for a December trip again.
2. Referrals
Ask happy travellers for a referral right after the trip, while it is fresh. Make it easy: send them a short message they can forward, with your WhatsApp link. Thank anyone who sends a friend your way.
3. Instagram
Short videos of real trips, real hotels and real travellers work better than stock photos. Put the price “from” and the dates in the caption, because the first comment will be “price?”. Then reply to every comment and DM within minutes. Our guide to selling group trips on Instagram shows how.
4. Google Business Profile
People search “travel agency near me” and “Dubai packages from Mumbai”. Keep your Google Business Profile complete, with photos, opening hours, a phone number and a WhatsApp link. Ask every traveller for a review after the trip. Asking only the happy ones breaks Google's rules, as we explain in our guide to review gating.
5. WhatsApp click-to-chat ads
Meta's click-to-WhatsApp ads open a chat with you instead of a form. They can bring a lot of enquiries quickly, often in the evening. They only pay off if someone replies within minutes, so plan for that before you switch them on.
6. Your website
Give each package its own page with a “from” price, the dates, what is included and a WhatsApp button. Ask for dates and the number of travellers on your enquiry form, so your first reply can be useful.
7. Partners
Wedding planners, corporate HR teams, schools, colleges and clubs all organise trips. A few good partners can send you steady group business. If you sell abroad, a good DMC in each destination helps you quote faster. Our guide to what a DMC is explains how they work with agencies.
8. Travel fairs and local events
Fairs are slow to pay back, but the leads tend to be serious. Collect numbers with permission, and follow up within a day, not a week.
Why most travel leads are lost after they arrive
Before you spend more on ads, look at what happens to the leads you already get. Three things lose most of them:
- Slow first replies. Travellers message three or four agencies at once. See why the first clear reply wins the booking.
- Late or unclear quotes. A quote that arrives a day later, with one total and no breakdown, loses to a clear one sent in an hour. Our travel quotation format helps.
- No follow-up. Most quotes that go quiet were never refused. Read how to follow up a travel quote.
Track where each lead comes from
Tag every enquiry with its source: Instagram, Google, ad, referral, repeat, partner. At the end of the month, count bookings and revenue by source, not just leads. A source that sends many leads and few bookings is costing you time. Cost per booking is the number that matters.
Where an AI agent helps
Socavi's Enquiry Agent answers every WhatsApp, Instagram, email and web chat enquiry in seconds, day and night. It asks the questions you need before you quote. The Quote Agent builds the itinerary and prices it from your own rates, for your team to approve. The Follow-up Agent follows up quiet quotes on the rules you set. The aim is more bookings from the leads you already pay for. See the agents.
